Originally from Norfolk, Debbie attended the North Walsham Girl’s High School and Norwich City College, leaving Norfolk to study for a BA Honours in Drama at Loughborough University. Having got her degree, she pursued her love of theatre, and trained at The Drama Studio, London.  Debbie worked as a professional actor for 10 years. Little Theatre part-time staff team

We have five part time employees, all of whom have been with the organisation for over 3 years. They help to run our Front of House, Box Office and PR activity. During the busy Summer and Pantomime seasons, we employ casual staff as required Front of House and this is often young people who are keen to experience working in an arts environment.  Our In-house productions enable us to engage local (where possible) freelance specialists within the Theatre Industry.

Little Theatre Volunteers

Currently we have a 100 strong army of whose ages range from 14- 80 plus. These loyal volunteers support all aspects of The Theatre’s activity; including running the daytime coffee bar and evening bar, acting as ushers and programme sellers, helping with publicity, mail-outs and selling ice creams.

Semi-retired primary school teacher Wendy Austin has been a volunteer at the Little Theatre since moving to Sheringham with her husband Graham four years ago. “We have always been keen theatre-goers and the Little Theatre was one of the things that drew us to Sheringham – we felt it was a real gem which was something we’d like to support,” she said.

As well as insisting on seeing every summer season play, the couple regularly attend films, touring productions and music events and, for the past few years, have hosted summer rep company members in their Sheringham home. “It has become an important part of our lives and it is wonderful to see the actors rise to the challenge of learning their lines and changing their characters,” Wendy said.

Whether you’re new to the area and want to meet up with like-minded people, or you would like to gain valuable work experience, devoting a few hours a week to volunteering at the theatre is a rewarding way of supporting a much-loved, community-focused arts venue. It is also lots of fun! Our dedicated team of volunteers really are the backbone of the theatre and without them, we simply couldn’t survive.

If you would like to find out more about becoming a volunteer at Sheringham Little Theatre, please phone the box office on 01263 822347 or email: boxoffice@sheringhamlittletheatre.com
