Discover the power of words in this welcoming creative writing session with acclaimed local writer, poet and scriptwriter James McDermott. Whether you're an experienced writer or putting pen to paper for the first time, these relaxed workshops will explore poetry and creative expression in a supportive environment.
In these four inclusive interactive accessible poetry workshops for writers of all abilities, through a series of individual writing tasks and group discussions of poems, you will learn tools and techniques to help you develop your voice and craft as a poet. Sessions will cover generating ideas, imagery, music, form, structure, drafting, rewriting, publication, performance plus much else besides, and at the end of the four workshops you will have written multiple drafts of new poems. In sessions, there will also be a chance to read your work aloud and receive peer & tutor feedback.
The workshops will be delivered by local writer James McDermott whose poetry collections include ‘Father Myself’ and ‘Wild Life’ (Nine Arches Press). James’s poems have been widely published in magazines including Poetry Wales, The North, Magma, Butcher’s Dog and Interpreter’s House. James has also written multiple plays which have been staged at Sheringham Little Theatre, including ‘Ghosted’, ‘Shanty’, ‘Time & Tide’ and ‘It Comes In Waves’. James is an Arvon writing tutor, Poet In Schools for the Poetry Society and lecturer in creative writing at UEA.
Free to attend with refreshments provided.
