Little Theatre Given Big Boost by £4000 Raffle

A major raffle by a popular Sheringham shop has proved just the ticket for the town’s Little Theatre.

For the draw, run by Blyth and Wright, has raised more than £4000 for the charity-run theatre’s appeal to replace its ageing cinema screen.

The event, which attracted 127 prizes donated by the shop’s suppliers, customers and the general public, reached a climax this week when 50 of the winning tickets were drawn at a fun evening held at the theatre (Jan 13).

It starred multi-talented Norfolk entertainer Olly Day, who mixed music, magic and comedy, including a self-penned novelty song in the style of Norfolk’s Singing Postman called the Ballad of Aldi and Lidl. The remaining tickets were drawn at the Station Road shop the following day.

During his show Olly praised the business for giving community support to the theatre, which was vital at a time when many venues were struggling to survive.

Shop director Chris Wright thanked everyone who support the raffle, which raised a total of £4282, adding: “It was a real community effort.”

Theatre director Debbie Thompson reminded people that the community arts venue was run by a charity and relied on public support for extra income to fund some improvements.

She said: “We always welcome support from businesses and individuals through sponsorship, legacies, donations, community fundraising, becoming a member or through people just popping in to use our Hub coffee bar. Without this help, and our many volunteer helpers, we simply could not operate.”

There’s another chance to see Olly in action this summer and he and comedy double act partner Nigel “Boy” Syer bring their Norfolk-flavoured fun show If It’s Laughter You’re After to the Little Theatre on Friday July 17. Tickets are currently only avaliable for our Friends & Members and those who attended the event – tickets will be released for general sale on Wednesday 21st January.
