Meet Repair Shop Electronics Ace Mark Stuckey

He’s best known as the electronics expert on TV’s The Repair Shop who brings radios back to life.

But there’s much more to Mark Stuckey than that – and he’s heading to Sheringham Little Theatre to talk about his varied careers, many hobbies and reveal some behind-the-scenes stories from the repair barn.

Mark, who lives in Cromer, is a big fan of the theatre, and has already helped the venue with some of his expertise in the fields of electrics and, and as a huge movie buff, cinema matters.

He has a home cinema which he is currently enlarging from 12 to 20 seats and is heavily involved with two groups of fellow enthusiasts rescuing old reels from destruction and conserving pre-digital projection equipment.

Other hobbies include astronomy – through a back garden observatory with a rare telescope – amateur radio, Roman history and restoring cars and pianos. Oh and he also used to be a professional magician and has a Dalek in his sunroom!

“Everything stems from my love for learning and wanting to understand how things work,” he explained.  “If I get interested in something I want to dig really deeply into it.”

His involvement with The Repair Shop began six years ago when he was running his radio repair shop and got a call from the BBC to fix a sentimental transistor radio for the show.

“I thought it was a one-off, but the calls kept coming. We never get beaten by the repairs but the people’s stories can get us in tears,” said Mark.

On Saturday January 24 he will feature in a Question and Answer session, in conversation with theatre trustee and retired journalist Richard Batson, which is a fundraiser for the venue. He will speak about some of the repairs, what it’s like to work in the barn, the laughter and the tears.

And he will say more about his varied careers – from dealing with atomic weapons and performance cars to doing magic with Paul Daniels.
