Pygmalion is a sharp witted social commentary wrapped in comedic play… it explores themes of class identity and the superficiality of high society.

The story begins in Covent Garden where professor Henry Higgins an expert in phonetics makes a wager with his colleague Colonel Pickering that he can take Elizabeth Doolittle a poor flower girl with a cockney accent and pass her off as a duchess by simply teaching her to ‘talk proper‘.

Eliza moves into Higgins’ house and undergoes rigorous training. She succeeds brilliantly and fools the upper crust of London society.

However, Eliza finds that now she is a lady she no longer fits into her old world but lacks the financial means to survive in the new one.
