Virtuosos Harp and Guitar Duo Return to Norfolk

Extraordinary English acoustic guitar virtuoso Chris Newman and legendary Irish harpist, Máire Ní Chathasaigh, are award-winning internationally celebrated icons of Celtic folk and beyond and are returning to the North Norfolk coast, following a recent highly acclaimed performance at Cromer’s Folk on the Pier festival in 2025.

Chris Newman is one of the world’s finest flat-picking guitarists and a gifted improviser who has toured and recorded with many luminaries of the folk and jazz worlds (among them Aly Bain, Boys of the Lough, Kathryn Tickell, Diz Disley and Stéphane Grappelli) and is an awardwinning composer and record producer, even receiving a silver disc for producing Fred Wedlock’s Top 10 hit “The Oldest Swinger in Town”!

Máire Ní Chathasaigh, steeped in the traditions of her native Co. Cork, is a recipient of Irish music’s most prestigious award, Traditional Musician of the Year and a multiple All-Ireland winner; she developed profoundly influential techniques for harp performance of traditional Irish music, heard on her iconic 1985 solo album, ‘The New Strung Harp’, acclaimed as ‘a milestone in Irish harp music’ by the Irish Examiner and according to the Irish Echo ‘Máire is an absolute legend… a game-changer in the world of harp-music… truly ground-breaking’

Their music is rooted but eclectic, emotional but adventurous, inventive, moving, and beautiful. Audiences can expect soulful melodies and exciting rhythms: a breathtaking blend of traditional Irish music, hot jazz, bluegrass and baroque, performed with spellbinding lyricism, dazzling virtuosity and a beguiling warmth, charm, and wit.

Don’t miss Chris Newman and Máire Ní Chathasaigh at Sheringham Little Theatre on Saturday 21 November at 7:30PM, get your tickets here.
