Multi-Million Copy Crime Author to Appear at Sheringham Little Theatre
Sheringham’s Little Theatre, in proud collaboration with Creative Sheringham, is delighted to announce An Afternoon with J M Dalgliesh on Friday 23rd May 2026. One of the most widely read British crime authors of the past decade, J M Dalgliesh has sold over 4.6 million books worldwide and topped the Amazon charts in the UK, US, Canada and Australia — and he is set to become even more of a household name following a major new publishing deal.
In March 2026, Transworld — an imprint of Penguin Random House, the world’s largest trade book publisher — announced the acquisition of 28 of Dalgliesh’s existing titles, comprising his beloved Misty Isle, Hidden Norfolk and Dark Yorkshire series, along with world all-language rights to eight new frontlist titles. These include a brand new series set in Orkney, due for publication in January 2027.
In a further indication of the scale of ambition behind this deal, Transworld has also acquired film and television rights to both the Misty Isle series and the forthcoming Orkney series, with his wider catalogue already in development for the screen by an award-winning production team.
“I am delighted to be partnering with the biggest brand in global publishing to bring my characters, both new and existing, to a wider audience. There is a lot to come from me and I’m only just getting started.” – J M Dalgliesh
J M Dalgliesh is an internationally bestselling crime author whose atmospheric, character-driven police procedurals have topped the charts across four continents. Listed as one of the ten most-read authors on Amazon UK over the past decade — despite only having published titles for six of those ten years — his books have accumulated over 450,000 reader reviews on Amazon UK alone.
His three principal series — Hidden Norfolk, Dark Yorkshire and Misty Isle — have sold over 4.6 million copies worldwide and been translated into multiple languages, selling in 68 countries. His first novel, Divided House, was published in 2018 and he has since released more than 30 novels.
Born on the south coast of England, Jason has lived across rural England and the Scottish Highlands and now calls Norfolk home. He can often be found walking his oversized dog along the north Norfolk coast — the very landscape that inspired the Hidden Norfolk series.
An Afternoon with J M Dalgliesh takes place at the Little Theatre, Sheringham, on Friday 23rd May 2026. The event is presented in proud collaboration with Creative Sheringham.
