Come and join our vital volunteers

Volunteers Week begins tomorrow – so it’s a great chance to thank our team of unpaid helpers, and put a rallying call out for more!

Millions of people give up time each week to help community organisations and charities. Our theatre is both and we have a brilliant bunch of volunteers doing a range of tasks to support our small team of paid staff.

We appreciate their unpaid efforts all year round, and quite simply we could not function without them. But it is good to highlight their efforts to the wider world in Volunteers Week which runs from June 1-7.

Our helpers work in the Hub coffee bar, and usher people to their seats – but we would like more to help expand our opening hours to offer more community events.

And there’s a whole host of other jobs where we would love to attract new volunteers. There is scope to use admin, marketing and data analysis skills in office and promotional work. And we are always looking for confident telephone callers or sales people to assist with our fundraising efforts.

It’s rewarding, good for the soul, and fun – as the volunteers say for themselves.

Retired civil servant Jackie Wearmouth says: “Volunteering is very good for your personal wellbeing. There is no reason to sit at home when there are so many opportunities out there – and a chance to make new friends.”

Julie Henwood, a retired neo natal nurse, said: “I love all things theatre, so when I moved here I signed up as a volunteer and really enjoy meeting the customers and other helpers.”
