Beach Hut Comedy is a Shore-Fire Summer Treat
Happy holiday beach huts are the unlikely setting for a seaside stand-off as shoreline regulars clash with a wave of noisy newcomers.
Sand Castles is a double scoop of comedy fun with sprinkles of English quirkiness being staged at Sheringham Little Theatre in June.
It was penned by top TV sitcom writer Bob Larbey who created A Fine Romance and As Time Goes By and co-wrote The Good Life and Ever Decreasing Circles.
Rehearsals are under way for the show by a 13-strong cast from the Little Theatre Community Players drama group.
The action revolves around two couples Stan and Bernice Billett and William and Margaret Patterson (David Burns and Nicola Gilbert, Steve Tuck and Bev Taylor) who rule the roost in the area around the beach huts where they have holidayed for years.
But their cosy world is tilted off its axis with the arrival of newcomer hut renter Doug (Tony Waeland) and his noisy nieces Debs and Becky (Lucy Connor and Attia Law), who don’t give a hoot about beach hut etiquette and just want to have fun.
A motley collection of other beachgoers also resent the hut owners up the “posh” end of the beach.
Director Libby Henshaw said: “The cast are really enjoying rehearsing this wonderful, light-hearted, gentle and very British summer play which is the perfect antidote to everything that’s going on in the world at the moment.
“The joy is in the relationships between the very different characters, with some added class war and social climbing plus beach territorial disputes which should resonate with North Norfolk audiences.”
The show runs from June 24-26 at 7.30pm with a 2.30pm Saturday matinee. Get your tickets here.
