Variety show set to spice up theatre funds

Talented friends of Sheringham Little Theatre are teaming up to stage a fundraising variety show for the venue.

A mix of mainly professional actors and singers plus some star staff will perform at the special show on Saturday October 26.

There will be musical theatre songs, comedy and some surprises on the bill for the 7.30pm, which is being organised by Norfolk actress Meg Artherton who has appeared in summer dramas at the theatre.

“It sprung from a cast sing-along session at the end of this year’s summer season – and we said ‘we should do a show.’

“Rallying a cast of people who love the Little Theatre to lend their voices to a fundraiser was not difficult. They were all very keen to help,” she explained.

Meg will be joined by other young actors Lewes Roberts, Oliver Westlake and Megan Brice plus others to sing songs from shows including Oliver! and Les Miserables. Another familiar summer face Loraine Metcalfe will reprise some Joyce Grenfell comedy monologues.

Even theatre director Debbie Thompson , who was a professional actor for 20 years, will do a Victoria Wood sketch, and her daughter Katie will also sing. Other family members may also be among the surprise guests.

Local playwright Christopher Sainton-Clark will perform experts from his own show Tales from a Country Pub which was performed at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Actor-writer Mary Lincoln who recently staged her own one woman show Marcella’s Minute to Midnight at Sheringham returns with composer husband Tony Britten to do a comedy musical routine.

And watch out for theatre commercial and front of house managers Hannah Smith and Robert Briggs who will be adding their talents to the cocktail of entertainment. Tickets are selling fast but a few are still available at £12 here or the box office on 012163 822347.
